In the intimate atmosphere of the exclusive central London private members’ club Home House, we held our first networking event. The evening sparked discussions around empowerment, inspiration and innovation: how the world of fashion is evolving and is continuously influenced by other industries.
Steffy B; founder Stefania Barbaglio presented the evening, leading the discussions with two hand-picked speakers from the creative sector: Liz Olver, design director at Annoushka Jewellery, and fashion designer Nico Didonna, both figures who have ‘made it’ despite encountering challenges along their paths.
Liz Olver has worked alongside Annoushka, designing and developing distinctive jewellery collections for the last 12 years. As an alumna of Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art, Liz is also Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, and an Examiner for MA Luxury Jewellery Management and BA (Hons) International Jewellery Business at Birmingham City University.
Nico Didonna, who graduated from London College of Fashion, centres on garment versatility quality and craftmanship, always pushing the boundaries and merging classic designs with a contemporary feel. Each collection is unique, designed and produced locally, with strong references to his Italian roots and heritage.
We discussed fashion & jewellery creation, the constant evolution of the fashion industry, sustainability, and the perennial quest for one’s own style.
Liz guided us on the topic of how jewellery can reflect our lifestyles, exploring the meanings we attribute to the items we wear every day.
We also looked at the ways sustainability is driving new fashion businesses and fresh techniques for producing clothes and accessories, especially when it comes to the use of natural sources such as gold or silver.
Then, we dug into empowerment, sharing personal experiences and career successes, as well as challenges. Remember, failures are as important as successes in our lives: they teach us to refine our skills and reinforce our determination.
Nico focused on empowerment through clothes, making the point that style does not always match the latest fashion trends, and how we have the power to choose what we want to wear, regardless of what other people think.
Our amazing guests from a variety of industries enjoyed lively interaction with the panel, exchanging insightful questions and observations. Attendees also had the opportunity to admire and try on the fantastic pieces in the @Annoushka jewellery collection, exclusively displayed for the event.
One of the goals of SteffyB; is to connect people and create synergies between the worlds of fashion and business, staying ahead of the innovation curve while inspiring and empowering people.
